STORM WEATHER UPDATE: Electricity
I 14 May 2026 @ 16:30

Stanford-Gansbaai (Municipal direct):

We still do not have good news to share this afternoon.

According to the latest update from Eskom, the team found a fault on the 66kV line near Country Fair in Stanford.

Eskom is sending a team to the site to repair the fault as soon as possible.

At this stage, it is not yet known if this is the only fault on the line, but we remain hopeful that power can be restored later tonight.

Pringle Bay, Betty’s Bay, Rooi-Els (Eskom direct):

Unfortunately, there is also no positive update yet for the Pringle Bay area. Eskom has informed us that teams are still on site carrying out repairs. There is currently no estimated restoration time available.

STORM WEATHER UPDATE: Electricity
I 14 May 2026 @ 13:00

Stanford – Gansbaai (Municipal direct):
The Eskom team is still busy patrolling the 66kV line between Hermanus, Stanford and Gansbaai to locate the fault.

So far, no fault has been found. This is a long line and the inspection process is taking time.

At this stage, there is no estimated time for restoration (ETR). Further updates will be shared as soon as more information becomes available.

Onrus / Hemel-en-Aarde Valley (Eskom direct)
Once the Stanford-Gansbaai section has been completed, the team will move on to investigate reported problems in Bosplasie (Onrus) and the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.

There is currently no estimated time for restoration (ETR).

Pringle Bay, Betty’s Bay, Rooi-Els (Eskom direct)
Eskom has not yet found the cable fault affecting the whole of Pringle Bay, Hangklip and Sea Farm areas.

To isolate the fault, testing still needs to be done beyond REC384 and REC383 on the J & K ring, which is currently keeping the majority of Betty’s Bay out of supply.

Eskom’s cable section team must continue with fault-finding on the affected network.

It is hoped that the new shift will be able to locate the fault early this afternoon so that supply can be restored in stages and repairs can begin immediately.

STORM WEATHER UPDATE: Electricity Hemel-en-Aarde Valley I 14 May 2026 @ 10:30

Eskom has advised that they are aware of damaged electrical lines in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, including the area around Southern Right Farm near the stop-and-go.

Eskom will attend to the fault as soon as resources become available.

As reminder, Overstrand Municipality has no authority or operational control over Eskom infrastructure, and we remain dependent on Eskom for both technical intervention and official updates.

As soon as new information becomes available, it will be communicated.

STORM WEATHER UPDATE: Electricity Stanford-Gansbaai I 14 May 2026 @ 10:00

Unfortunately, there is still no good news for residents affected by the prolonged outage in Stanford and the Greater Gansbaai area.

Eskom attempted to re-energise the supply this morning for a second time – a brief dip in electricity may have been noticed when this was done. However, the breaker tripped again, indicating a fault on the line.

Eskom teams are currently patrolling the line to locate the source of the problem and are conducting further investigations.

It is now clear that the previously estimated three-hour restoration timeline will not be possible.

STORM WEATHER UPDATE: Electricity I 14 May 2026 @ 08:30

Let us all help residents still without power by reducing the load on the network as electricity is restored in phases. Please be mindful of the rest of the suburbs and avoid switching on high-energy appliances immediately.

Before power returns, switch off appliances such as pool pumps, geysers, and heaters. Once electricity is restored, wait at least 30 minutes before switching them back on.

This will help prevent system overloads and reduce the risk of further tripping or outages. Your co-operation is greatly appreciated and will help ensure a smoother and more stable restoration process.

Stanford – Greater Gansbaai (Municipal direct)

Eskom replaced the 66kV breaker that serves the Stanford-Gansbaai area and tried to energise it this morning, but it tripped. The Eskom team is currently in Stanford investigating the cause of the fault.

We anticipate another three hours, provided no further problems are encountered, before power can be restored to the Stanford-Gansbaai area.

Hermanus (Municipal direct):

At 22:00 last night, Eskom restored enough capacity for the municipality to switch on the remaining affected customers. Around 99% of Hermanus should now have power.

Some isolated streets may still be without electricity due to damaged infrastructure. These sections were isolated to restore supply to the wider area.

Repair teams worked through the night and will continue attending to the remaining sections this morning.

Onrus / Vermont(Eskom direct):

Bosplasie and surrounding households are still without power. No estimated restoration time (ETR) is available at this stage.

Pringle Bay, Betty’s Bay, Rooi-Els (Eskom direct)

Repair work is starting this morning

STORM WEATHER UPDATE: Electricity I 13 May 2026 @ 22:00

Hermanus Electricity Update:

Eskom assisted with additional capacity by moving their Eskom direct Hermanus load to their Hawston feeder.

This freed up sufficient capacity for us to switch on the last of the customers that was still off.

99% of Hermanus should now be on.

There might be isolated streets where the damaged infrastructure still need to be repaired. These sections were isolated so that the rest could be switched on.

The teams have been hard at work repairing the damage and we’ll try to attend to the remaining sections as soon as possible.
